Non-heme iron-containing dioxygenase that probably catalyzes the stereo-specific peroxidation of free and esterified polyunsaturated fatty acids producing a spectrum of bioactive lipid mediators. May preferentially convert arachidonic acid to (12S)-hydroperoxyeicosatetraenoic acid/(12S)-HPETE.
