Description
ALDH3A1 (aldehyde dehydrogenase 3 family member A1) is an NAD(P)+-dependent aldehyde dehydrogenase that oxidizes a broad spectrum of aliphatic/aromatic aldehydes; the product page notes high expression in stomach and (more strongly) cornea, with proposed corneal protection from UV-induced oxidative stress via detoxification of reactive aldehydes and direct UV energy absorption (with functional redundancy suggested with ALDH1A1 in UVB response). Assay context: rabbit polyclonal IgG raised to a 13-aa synthetic peptide near the C-terminus of human ALDH3A1 (within the last 50 aa); tested in Western blot (suggested 1–2 µg/mL; validated in human stomach lysate) and ELISA; reactive human/mouse/rat; predicted no cross-reactivity to ALDH3A2; observed ~68 kDa vs calculated 50.4 kDa. In oxidative-stress/epithelial injury panels, ALDH3A1 can be contextualized with metabolism or injury markers such as ACAA2 (mitochondrial lipid metabolism) or GPT (ALT) (tissue injury; putative co-panel use).
Storage & Handling
Aldh3A1 antibody can be stored at 4°C for three months and -20°C, stable for up to one year. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Antibodies should not be exposed to prolonged high temperatures.

Immunogen
Aldh3A1 antibody was raised against a 13 amino acid synthetic peptide near the carboxy terminus of the human Aldh3A1. The immunogen is located within the last 50 amino acids of Aldh3A1.
Cross-reactivity
At least two isoforms of Aldh3A1 are known to exist. This antibody is predicted to have no cross-reactivity to Aldh3A2.

Background of ALDH3A1
Aldh3A1 is a member of the aldehyde dehydrogenase superfamily, a group of NAD(P)(+)-dependent enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of a wide spectrum of aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes. Aldh3A1 is highly expressed in stomach and even more strongly in cornea, representing between 5 to 50% of the water soluble protein fraction in mammalian corneas. It is thought that Aldh3A1 acts to protect the cornea from UV-induced oxidative stress by not only detoxification of reactive aldehydes by also through the direct absorbtion of UV energy. However, corneas from Aldh3A1-null mice are indistinguishable from those from wild-type mice; mice lacking both Aldh3A1 and Aldh1A1 showed increased cataract formation following UVB exposure, suggesting that Aldh1A1 may be able to compensate for the loss of Aldh3A1.
Antibody Validation
Boster validates all antibodies on WB, IHC, ICC, Immunofluorescence, and ELISA with known positive control and negative samples to ensure specificity and high affinity, including thorough antibody incubations.
