Background of Apolipoprotein D

Apolipoprotein D (Apo-D) is a protein that in humans, encoded by the APOD gene. Being a member of the alpha (2 mu)-microglobulin superfamily of carrier proteins, Apo-D is also known as lipocalin. The gene has been localized to the p14.2----qter region of human chromosome 3. It is a glycoprotein of estimated molecular weight 33,000 Da. The Apo-D encoded a protein of 169 amino acid residue. It has been detected in human liver, intestine, pancreas, kidney, placenta, adrenal, spleen, and fetal brain tissue. For its features, Apo-D has been a biomarker of androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS).

Antibody Validation

Boster validates all antibodies on WB, IHC, ICC, Immunofluorescence, and ELISA with known positive control and negative samples to ensure specificity and high affinity, including thorough antibody incubations.

Question

Will PA1388 anti-Apolipoprotein D/APOD antibody work on parafin embedded sections? If so, which fixation method do you recommend we use (PFA, paraformaldehyde, other)?

B. Gonzalez

Verified customer

Asked: 2018-04-23

Answer

You can see on the product datasheet, PA1388 anti-Apolipoprotein D/APOD antibody as been validated on WB. It is best to use PFA for fixation because it has better tissue penetration ability. PFA needs to be prepared fresh before use. Long term stored PFA turns into formalin, as the PFA molecules congregate and become formalin.
