Essential for mitochondrial network organization, mitochondrial metabolism and cell growth at cellular and receptor level. May play a significant role in mitochondrial protein synthesis.

May also participate in mitochondrial DNA replication. May bind to mitochondrial DNA D-loops and contribute to nucleoid stability.
