Proteasome subunit alpha type-8 (Psma8)

Part of the spermatoproteasome, a form of the proteasome especially found in testis that promotes degradation of histones, thereby participating actively to the exchange of histones during spermatogenesis. The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex which is characterized by its ability to cleave peptides with Arg, Phe, Tyr, Leu, and Glu adjacent to the leaving group at neutral or slightly basic pH.
