DNA polymerase kappa (Polk)

DNA polymerase specifically involved in DNA repair. Plays an important role in translesion synthesis, in which the normal high-fidelity DNA polymerases can't proceed and DNA synthesis stalls (PubMed:12432099).

Based on the circumstance, it inserts the proper base, but causes frequent foundation transitions, transversions and frameshifts. Lacks 3'-5' proofreading exonuclease activity.
