Polyglutamase that preferentially modifies alpha- tubulin (PubMed:17499049). Involved from the side-chain elongation step of the polyglutamylation response as opposed to at the initiation step.

Needed for CCSAP localization to both spindle and cilia microtubules (PubMed:17499049). Generates long side- chains (PubMed:20530212).
