Description
CD34 is a cell-surface sialomucin-like glycoprotein implicated in adhesion/interaction of hematopoietic progenitors with the bone-marrow niche (GO:0007155 cell adhesion; often used as a stem/progenitor and endothelial marker). Assay context: quantitative sandwich ELISA kit for Human CD34 measured in culture supernatants, serum, and plasma (per product description; soluble/fragmented CD34 in fluids is a putative analyte); may be interpreted alongside angiogenesis-associated secreted factor PROK1 (EG-VEGF) in vascular biology studies, or combined cytokine/endothelial panels via multiplex assays (putative).
Storage & Handling
Store at 4°C for 6 months, at -20°C for 12 months. Avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles (Ships with gel ice, can store for up to 3 days in room temperature. Freeze upon receiving.)

Background of CD34
CD34 is a transmembrane phosphoglycoprotein protein encoded by the CD34 gene in humans, mice, rats and other species. The protein encoded by this gene may play a role in the attachment of stem cells to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or to stromal cells. This single-pass membrane protein is highly glycosylated and phosphorylated by protein kinase C. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
