3 Customer Q&As for Anti-MBP Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody

Question

Our lab were well pleased with the WB result of your anti-MBP Rabbit Monoclonal antibody. However we have observed positive staining in hippocampus subthalamic nucleus myelin membrane using this antibody. Is that expected? Could you tell me where is MBP supposed to be expressed?

Asked: 2017-11-14

Answer

From what I have seen in literature, hippocampus subthalamic nucleus does express MBP. Generally MBP expresses in myelin membrane. Regarding which tissues have MBP expression, here are a few articles citing expression in various tissues:
Amygdala, Pubmed ID: 17974005
Brain, Pubmed ID: 7504278, 7574672, 7685161
Cervix carcinoma, Pubmed ID: 23186163
Embryonic spinal cord, Pubmed ID: 2427738, 2442403
Hippocampus, and Subthalamic nucleus, Pubmed ID: 14702039
Leukemic T-cell, Pubmed ID: 19690332

Question

We are currently using anti-MBP Rabbit Monoclonal antibody M30934-2 for all species tissue, and we are happy with the WB results. The species of reactivity given in the datasheet says all species. Is it possible that the antibody can work on dog tissues as well?

E. Baker

Asked: 2014-08-11

Answer

The anti-MBP Rabbit Monoclonal antibody (M30934-2) has not been tested for cross reactivity specifically with dog tissues, but there is a good chance of cross reactivity. We have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in dog you can get your next antibody for free. Please contact me if I can help you with anything.

According to Uniprot.org, MBP is expressed in c1 segment of cervical spinal cord, embryonic spinal cord, brain, amygdala, hippocampus subthalamic nucleus, brain, lung skin, leukemic t-cell, cervix carcinoma, among other tissues. Regarding which tissues have MBP expression, here are a few articles citing expression in various tissues:
Amygdala, Pubmed ID: 17974005
Brain, Pubmed ID: 7504278, 7574672, 7685161
