Background of XPV/DNA polymerase eta

DNA polymerase eta (Pol η), is a protein that in humans is encoded by the POLH gene. This gene encodes a member of the Y family of specialized DNA polymerases. It copies undamaged DNA with a lower fidelity than other DNA-directed polymerases. However, it accurately replicates UV-damaged DNA; when thymine dimers are present, this polymerase inserts the complementary nucleotides in the newly synthesized DNA, thereby bypassing the lesion and suppressing the mutagenic effect of UV-induced DNA damage. This polymerase is thought to be involved in hypermutation during immunoglobulin class switch recombination. Mutations in this gene result in XPV, a variant type of xeroderma pigmentosum. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

Antibody Validation

Boster validates all antibodies on WB, IHC, ICC, Immunofluorescence, and ELISA with known positive control and negative samples to ensure specificity and high affinity, including thorough antibody incubations.

1 Customer Q&As for Anti-DNA polymerase eta/POLH Antibody Picoband™

Question

We are currently using anti-DNA polymerase eta/POLH antibody PB9813 for rat tissue, and we are content with the WB results. The species of reactivity given in the datasheet says human, rat. Is it possible that the antibody can work on primate tissues as well?

A. Lewis

Verified customer

Asked: 2014-07-22

Answer

The anti-DNA polymerase eta/POLH antibody (PB9813) has not been validated for cross reactivity specifically with primate tissues, but there is a good chance of cross reactivity. We have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in primate you can get your next antibody for free. Please contact me if I can help you with anything.
