Background of ATF4
Predicted to enable several functions, including DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific; cAMP response element binding protein binding activity; and protein heterodimerization activity. Predicted to be involved in several processes, including intracellular signal transduction; lens fiber cell morphogenesis; and regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Predicted to act upstream of or within regulation of DNA-templated transcription and rhythmic process. Predicted to be part of ATF1-ATF4 transcription factor complex and ATF4-CREB1 transcription factor complex. Predicted to be active in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including eye; hindbrain; liver; muscle; and trunk. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in prostate carcinoma. Orthologous to human ATF4 (activating transcription factor 4).
