Mediates the voltage-dependent proton permeability of excitable membranes. Types a proton-selective channel through which protons can pass in accordance with their electrochemical gradient.

Proton efflux, accompanied by membrane depolarization, facilitates acute production of reactive oxygen species in phagocytosis. .
