Description

GDF15 is a stress-responsive TGF-β superfamily hormone that conveys physiological stress signals to the brain and is widely used as a circulating marker in cardiometabolic/inflammation studies (context dependent). Assay context: 120-min “Quick” sandwich ELISA (96 tests) for human GDF15 in culture supernatants, cell lysates, serum, and plasma (heparin/EDTA), sensitivity 10 pg/mL (per provided product description); can be compared to antibody-based detection using anti-GDF15 when validating size/processing forms by immunoblot (putative).

Storage & Handling

Store at 4°C for 6 months, at -20°C for 12 months. Avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles (Ships with gel ice, can store for up to 3 days in room temperature. Freeze upon receiving.)

Background of GDF15

GDF-15 (Growth differentiation factor 15),also known as TGF-PL, MIC-1, PDF, PLAB, and PTGFB, is a protein belonging to the transforming growth factor beta superfamily that has a role in regulating inflammatory and apoptotic pathways in injured tissues and during disease processes. Using FISH, the MIC1 gene is mapped to 19p13.2-p13.1. Its expression in liver can be significantly up-regulated in during injury of organs such as liver, kidney, heart and lung. GDF15 showed increased expression and secretion during erythroblast maturation. GDF15 functions as an antiinflammatory cytokine by directly interfering with chemokine signaling and integrin activation.

• Automated plate washer (optional).
