February 2022

In this month’s Research Spotlight, we highlight a range of our customers’ publications that investigate complex challenges and the development of life-changing innovations to improve patient health.

Find out how tNIR light treatment might serve as a noninvasive therapeutic alternative for regulating neuronal functions via the improvement of mitochondrial dysfunction mediated by the SIRT1/PGC-1α pathway. In addition, as more studies reveal the key role of circRNAs in cancer, researchers dive deeper into the molecular mechanism of circRNAs in prostate cancer progression.

In the fields of biomedicine and nanotechnology, scientists also successfully develop melanin@mSiO2 and HRPS biomimetic nanoparticles that function as high targeting delivery systems for tumor immunotherapy and RA therapy, respectively.

Transcranial photobiomodulation therapy ameliorates perioperative neurocognitive disorder through modulation of mitochondrial function in aged mice

Authors: Zhang, X., Wu, W., Luo, Y., Wang, Z.
Journal: Neuroscience

Perioperative neurocognitive disorder (PND) is a serious nervous system complication characterized by progressive cognitive impairment, especially in geriatric population. However, the neuropathogenesis of PND is complex, and there are no approved disease-modifying therapeutic options. Mitochondrial dysfunction has been demonstrated…

MARCH3 negatively regulates IL-3-triggered inflammatory response by mediating K48-linked polyubiquitination and degradation of IL-3Rα

Authors: Feng, L., Li, C., Zeng, L.W., Gao, D., Sun, Y.H., Zhong, L., Lin, H…
Journal: Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy

Interleukin-3 (IL-3) is a hematopoietic growth factor and critical regulator of inflammatory response such as sepsis. IL-3 binds to IL-3 receptor α (IL-3Rα), which is then associated with IL-3Rβ to initiate signaling. How IL-3-triggered physiological and pathological effects are regulated at the receptor level is unclear. Here, we...

Hsa_circ_0003258 promotes prostate cancer metastasis by complexing with IGF2BP3 and sponging miR-653-5p

Authors: Yu, Y.Z., Lv, D.J., Wang, C., Song, X.L., Xie, T., Wang, T., Li, Z.M…
Journal: Molecular Cancer

Background: More and more studies have shown that circular RNAs (circRNAs) play a critical regulatory role in many cancers. However, the potential molecular mechanism of circRNAs in prostate cancer (PCa) remains largely unknown. Methods: Differentially expressed circRNAs were identified by RNA sequencing. The expression of hsa_circ...

Biomimetic Hybrid Membrane-Coated Xuetongsu Assisted with Laser Irradiation for Efficient Rheumatoid Arthritis Therapy

Authors: Yu, H., Fan, J., Shehla, N., Qiu, Y., Lin, Y., Wang, Z., Cao, L., Li, B…
Journal: ACS Nano

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease underlying a cascade of chronic inflammatory processes. Over the past decades, the response rate of effective RA treatments has remained scarce despite numerous advancements in the current therapeutic interventions, owing largely to the associated off-target adverse events…

WTAP-mediated m6A modification of lncRNA DIAPH1-AS1 enhances its stability to facilitate nasopharyngeal carcinoma growth and metastasis

Authors: Li, Z.X., Zheng, Z.Q., Yang, P.Y., Lin, L., Zhou, G.Q., Lv, J.W…
Journal: Cell Death & Differentiation

As the most predominant RNA epigenetic regulation in eukaryotic cells, N6-methyladenosine (m6A) plays a critical role in human tumorigenesis and cancer progression. However, the biological function and molecular mechanism of m6A regulation in naso-pharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) remain elusive. Here, we showed that Wilms’ tumor 1-associating…

Mitochondrial Targeted Melanin@mSiO2 Yolk-shell Nanostructures for NIR-Ⅱ-driven Photo-Thermal-Dynamic/Immunotherapy

Authors: Zhang, Y., Wang, Q., Ji, Y., Fan, L., Ding, B., Lin, J., Wang, L.
Journal: Chemical Engineering Journal

The challenge of photothermal therapy (PTT) clinical transformation is the limited penetration depth of laser light and the general concern of using synthetic photothermal nanomaterials. Hence, it is of great significance to develop combined cancer therapies based on NIR-II photothermal agents from natural materials. Herein, natural…

Human pluripotent stem cell-derived ectomesenchymal stromal cells promote more robust functional recovery than umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stromal cells after hypoxic-ischaemic brain damage

Authors: Huang, J., U, K.P., Yang, F., Ji, Z., Lin, J., Weng, Z., Tsang, L.L…
Journal: Theranostics

Aims: Hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) is one of the most serious complications in neonates and infants. Mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC)-based therapy is emerging as a promising treatment avenue for HIE. However, despite its enormous potential, the clinical application of MSCs is limited by cell heterogeneity, low isolation…
